Description
This route meanders through beautiful rolling hills, with some great views towards Dartmoor and a couple places to grab something to eat in cute villages along the way too.
It fixes some access and accuracy issues in Lapcre One, but it otherwise true to the spirit of that route.
I think this would be a fantastic summer route, especially after a dry period.
I really enjoyed the walk, but it comes with some warnings. When I walked it in February it was very wet and muddy and at numerous points. At times my trainers were 100% covered in mud. At a couple of other points my feet were 100% covered in water.
It would be great to have a summer time review of this route so that we can make a comparison.
I think another Lapcre route between Lapford and Crediton is needed for people who want better odds of keeping their feet dry. Maybe someone local can suggest a drier and cleaner way that's also safe to walk.
Despite the warnings here... I would personally happily walk the route again!

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

07 May 2024I walked this route yesterday. I agree with Dan. It's a beautiful route.
It's a very hilly route and you can expect lots of great views across mid-Devon and across to Dartmoor.
It had been raining and it was VERY muddy in a few spots. This would be fine in waterproof boots, but I got very wet feet in my trainers. At one farm (where the path passes by Rolstone Barton) it was very very muddy with lots of manure. If you don't like walking through fields of cows you will struggle in a few places on this route.
I was pleased I walked the route, but there will be a way that is much drier that makes better use of the (quiet) lanes.
The route is good enough to be verified, but be prepared wet ground, cows and elevation.

06 Mar 2022I walked this route from Crediton to Lapford on a very sunny day at the beginning of March. In my opinion this is a great route with fantastic views of the Devon countryside and Dartmoor throughout. There are a number of refreshment stops available along the way in Sandford, Morchard Bishop and Lapford which all have cosy country pubs.
The route starts with a mixture of well formed path and quiet lane walking up to West Sandford. After which the majority of the route is on public rights of way, on footpaths and through fields. There were a few short and sharp inclines but it was mostly pleasant, easy walking.
As said in the previous review, it is a fairly muddy route in the winter/early spring but the vast majority of this was not a problem with a good pair of walking boots. There is however a ford to cross which was fine in walking boots and a stile that was so waterlogged that I had to take a little detour and jump over a fence. Those were the only two major difficulties I encountered. This is why this route loses 1 star.
There is a bus (5C) service that can take you back to your starting point as well as a train station. These services are infrequent so worth checking before setting off. I believe they don't run on a Sunday.
All in all a very nice walk that I definitely recommend.

08 Feb 2022This route is complex. Not because it's hard to navigate... but because on one hand it's a beautiful and enjoyable hike... but on the other, it was very wet and muddy when I walked it.
If it wasn't for being so wet and muddy it would be a superb Slow Way and be worth more stars. I'd love this to be a 4 star route.... but it was just SO muddy in places... and in a few places there was no choice but to walk through water.
I do think it's good enough to be in the network but:
1) It would be great to have it reviewed in the summer after a dry period for comparison... maybe it's a seasonly awesome route?
2) If you've the right shoes/boots and/or don't mind getting your feet muddy or wet... it's actually OK.
I enjoyed walking it and I'd certainly walk it again. If I was on a multi-day hike I'd definitely want to have some spare dry socks.
I think someone local could design a dryer and less muddy route that makes good use of better paths and safe enough lanes. It would be great to have that option in the network.
