Lancaster Ramblers
14 Oct 2021The route follows the routing of Langar one up to the village of Potters Brook where it leaves the canal towpath and follows the narrow lane through the village. It follows narrow, quiet lanes and field paths to reach the Wyre Way long distance footpath by the side of the M6 motorway near Nan’s Nook. It then heads away from the motorway by the river and through pleasant woods and field edges to reach the village of Scorton. Taking the easterly version of the Wyre Way through fields and woods, the route crosses the M6 and railway at Woodacre Hall and heads south-west to meet the river Wyre again which it follows. After crossing the river on a footbridge the river is followed through the park and into Garstang. The route is largely flat with some interesting stretches by the river and through woods. There is quite a lot of bird life and wild flowers but the noise from the motorway is a disadvantage. It is however a varied alternative to the towpath but more in the way of navigation is required and a map is essential. The Wyre Way itself is well signposted most of the time.
