This route is awful.
1.7miles/2.7k of it is a long a busy dual carriageway, which has a tiny overgrown pavement on one side, then you have to cross it with no pedestrian lights, to get to a farm track. The designer of this route wouldn’t have known, but it also happens that there are major road works going on here which block this farm track.
Worse than this though, is that another 1.7m/2.7k of the route follows the course of a Roman Road (the dead straight line gives it away). This is only marked on the 1:50,000 OS Map, and disappears when you switch to 1:25,000, because it doesn’t exist on the ground. Presumably it vanished under the farms centuries ago!! It crosses field boundaries, drainage ditches, a small pond, and even roads. In a straight line.
Pictures grabbed from Google Street View, and OS Maps plot.
