Description
(Written from Winchester to King's Somborne). Not suitable for wheelchairs unfortunately.
Begin at the Guildhall in Winchester High Street. Walk up the hill of the High Street, past the ancient Westgate, and take the left hand fork at the Westgate Hotel onto Romsey Road.
Walk along Romsey Road for a further 1.3 miles - past the prison, the hospital, and the West Downs campus of the university. At the mini roundabout with Chilbolton Avenue, continue straight on along Romsey Road. On the right, you will pass an avenue of beech trees and a short way after this, there is a junction with Stanmore Lane on the left and Kilham Lane on the right.
Turn right onto Kilham Lane. As the lane progresses, the pavement will end. At the crossroads with Sarum Road, continue straight on, onto Clarendon Way. Continue past the golf course, and Pinsent Scout Campsite on your right. At this point, the road ends and turns into track called Lanham Lane. This can get very muddy in wet weather but is a very pleasant, tree-lined route.
The far end of Lanham Lane turns back into a tarmac road and is surrounded by woodland. At the junction with Sarum Road is Beechcroft Farm Shop and Tea Barn. This is open from Thursday to Sunday (the tea barn is open from March to October between the clock changes) and is very highly recommended for a pit stop.
From the end of Lanham Lane, turn right onto Sarum Road and head straight on at the crossroads. A large sign and a turning on the right leads to Crab Wood car park. Turn off the road here, towards the car park. Follow the footpath leading off to your left. There are other footpaths, slightly deeper in to the carpark, which head into the woodland itself. The path you need is the first on the left which runs parallel to Sarum Road.
After a time, the footpath will bring you back onto the road, together with a gated Forestry Commission track and a sign saying "West Wood". You will find the footpath continuing in the same direction of travel near the gate. Continue along, parallel to the road again.
After a short distance, you can choose whether to continue along the path running parallel to the road and through the various car parks, or along the edge of the woodland at the bottom of a sloping wildflower meadow. Either way will eventually meet up and bring you back onto Sarum Road.
Cross Sarum Road and head into Farley Mount Monument car park. Continue along the footpath at the far end of this and uphill towards the monument. The path here is rutted chalk and quite uneven.
At the monument, my own map description ends as I haven't walked further on enough times, or recently enough to describe the route well. The rest of the route is the same as Kinwin One though and follows the Clarendon Way long distance path so should be easy enough to follow. I will aim to walk it soon to write the rest of this up, but if anyone else would like to do it first, please go ahead

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
