Description
A corrected version of Kinvkid one which had poor route plotting towards the Kinver end where that route heads towards the canal. There is no public right of way or route as given there, so this corrects those issues so others won't have to. It's a fairly straightforward diversion through The Hyde. The rest of the route is mainly along the lovely Staffordshire & Worcestershire canal, with a short section of urban walking at the Kingswinford end

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

17 Oct 2025Another interesting route which i stated from Kingswinford following A4101 on safe pavement, crossing the fast A449 is a little tricky. Once crossed you are rewarded with lovely views over Staffordshire countryside and a pathway down to the road passing Ashwood canal marina to The Navigation pub where you join the Staffordsire and Worcester canal. The canal goes through the countryside which as my walk was in Autumn is full of lovely colours all along the route before ending in Kinver. A safe easy to follow and enjoyable route.

12 Jul 2025I recently completed this walk travelling from Kingswinford. This is a very enjoyable walk which for the most part is along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal. The only things stopping it get the full five star treatment are the busy crossing of the fast A449 (photo 2), and a very short section of road walking along Doctor's Lane which has no verge (photo 3).
The route out of Kingswinford passes some fairly affluent looking houses as it heads west. Crossing the busy A449 which acts as the border between the W. Midlands and Staffordshire requires care as this section is fast. Once on the other side, the route starts along a rural path towards Ashwood. As mentioned already, once you reach the road at Doctor's Lane there is no verge so care is required on this short section. The route then takes you along Ashwood Lower Lane over the marina before it reaches the Navigation Inn and drops onto the towpath (photo 4) which doubles as the Monarch's Way.
The Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal has a unique character of it's own as it winds through the countryside, often with glimpses of sandstone which it carves it's way through. I really enjoyed the walk alongside the canal. I couldn't help feel that it would be very colourful in Autumn with the large amount of trees along the route. After leaving the canal, the route cuts through The Hyde which has several stables before reaching Kinver. You pass a miniature railway which apparently is only open on Sundays and Ban k Holidays otherwise it might have been a little fun if you like that sort of thing. There are no shortage of refreshment stops in Kinver with several pubs, shops and restaurants.
A lovely simple walk which is very enjoyable and I would walk again and recommend to others.
