Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)I am planning to walk this route very soon as part of a 90 mile route to Lowestoft, however I think it is really important to point out straightway that the section from the hospital in Gaywood all the way to Gayton about 6 miles away, should not be attempted. It is a major route for trucks and commuters, it has no footpaths and the police move parked cars and people off it in the Bawsey area every summer and throw fines about wherever necessary. It is a dangerous road, local people don’t walk on it or cycle on it. It shouldn’t be part of this route immediately but we’re told we can’t review parts of routes so I can’t do an alternative route until I’ve checked the rest. Therefore I’ve had to tick ‘maybe’ for verification which is frustrating and 3 stars even though I haven’t walked it yet. It was important to get this safety information on here now. There needs to be a better way to immediately flag up dangerous parts of what otherwise might be nice routes. There is another dangerous bit between Gayton and Gayton Thorpe on main road that leads to the A47. Don’t do this road unless you want to get squished by a big truck.

26 Apr 2023Your review is so helpful. Do you think Kinswa one is a better alternative?
DecemberRose
26 Apr 2023Yes Kinswa one looks much better. Although I do remember the bit between Narborough and the A47 on the Nar Valley Way was very overgrown and involved either a desperate dash across the major A47 or a struggle under a bridge that did not allow you to stand up to full height. It is a few years since I did it though so it might be better now.
