Description
Reworking of Kinkin One. The route has been improved to follow the Tamsin Trail rather than the motor road through Richmond Park. It has also been more accurately drawn so that road crossing points are clearer.
The basic routing choices stay the same - Richmond Park and residential roads through Kingston.
Note that Richmond Park is (usually) open but unlit at night. It has night closures during the deer cull periods (generally around November and February)

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

17 Dec 2023I walked this on a cloudy, but warmish early afternoon, from Kingston to Kingston Vale.
From the station, and after crossing an annoying road, the first part is along quiet residential roads. Nothing much interesting, but also not had. The section through Richmond Park along the Tamsin Trail was lovely. The path seems to be finished now, and it was easy going. There were very few cyclists using the path. Great route, but there is a fairly steep climb involved on the southern side, with the same and even steeper decline on the northern side of the trail. I particularly liked a thick tree trunk (photo #2). A benefit though is that you have a good view of the city (photo #1).
The crossing of the A3 into Wimbledon Common is annoying (but not strictly part of this route).

31 Oct 2023I started at Kingston Station (useful Tesco Express opposite). The street walk to Richmond Park is quite pleasant and not busy. There's a café and toilets (20 pence by card) at Kingston Gate. The Tamsin Trail is partly closed because of work on the boundary wall (October/November/December 2023). There's a signed pedestrian diversion or you can walk along the wide grass verge of the road to Broomfield Hill. There's a café in the car park and toilets at Robin Hood Gate (20 pence by card). Lovely trees in the park.

10 Aug 2022Almost countryside! Quiet streets in Kingston. A3 crossing at Kingston Vale via traffic lights. Easy access to Wimbledon Common.

08 Aug 2022The last 30% of this route is quiet residential but the rest is a lovely jaunt through Richmond Park.
The route follows a quiet footpath away from the cycle superhighway.
There’s a slight climb at one point but nothing too taxing.

07 Aug 2021This is a route I made in response to Kinkin One, as an option that follows footpaths rather than the road through Richmond Park.
I really enjoyed walking this route, especially being close to the trees and birds. There were several benches to rest on and generally this was an excellent walk.
At Kingston the route passes through quiet residential streets with a couple of pubs and a fish and chip shop.
In the park the route follows the Tamsin Trail, which is shared with bicycles. The upside is that the path surface is pretty decent and well drained, apart from some of the steep sections where the recent heavy rain makes channels in the surface.
There are toilets in the park at Kingston Gate and Robin Hood Gate.
At Kingston Vale the route does a dog-leg to the final meeting point. If you are carry on walking you can skip this and cross straight over the A3 to Wimbledon Common.
However if you want refreshment at Kingston Vale then go to the end of the route and there is a small row of shops where I enjoyed coffee and ice-cream at an Italian restaurant - highly recommended. A new cake shop appears to be about to open too!.
