Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Oct 2023I started from Robin Hood Gate having walked from Richmond. Lovely green walk. I cut across the golf course to Camp Road - slightly shorter. Good views south as you descend into Wimbledon. Toilets at Robin Hood Gate (needs bank card for 20p entry!).

14 Aug 2023Great route between Wimbledon and Kingston Vale. Once you get off the main road, it's a really pleasant stroll through suburban streets and the common. I did have to check the map a couple of times to make sure I was taking the right one, but generally it's straightforward and easy to navigate. Can't think of a better way between the two places!.

17 Dec 2022I walked this route on a freezing Saturday morning, from Wimbledon to Kingston Vale. The ground was frozen, and it had recently snowed (a tiny bit).
The walk from Wimbledon starts with a fairly steep up-hill to end up on Wimbledon Common. I did not see any Wombles, but the dogs were having fun on the frozen lake on the east side. The rest of the route is mainly through some woods, which were busy with runners and dogs. At the end is the A3, which I crossed to continue my walk this morning.
A lovely route, would walk it again.

05 Jan 2022I walked this route from Wimbledon to Kingston Vale on a muddy January morning!
I really enjoyed this route. Navigating from the station at Wimbledon was easy as the route followed smooth pavements. The hill on Ridgeway Place was steep, but there was a bench at the top to rest if need be. Then, the rest of the route winds through Wimbledon Common!
There were a lot of paths at times, so it was sometimes hard to know exactly which one to go down, but it’s nearly impossible to get lost in the common! The paths were also muddy, but in my trainers I didn’t get my feet wet as I was able to avoid most of the worst mud.
Look out for lots of dogs and horses and birds! Overall, a really really lovely route.

13 Nov 2021Direct and very pleasant route through a leafy area of SW London. Steep hill at Wimbledon, and the paths on the common may get muddy over winter.
I really enjoyed walking this route. When combined with Richkin One, the overall Richmond - Wimbledon Slow Way delivers a full 5 stars.

30 Apr 2021 (edited 25 Mar 2022)The first section of the walk is mostly along residential streets, including a steep incline up Wimbledon Hill along Ridgway Place. After crossing the The Ridgway into The Grange the route becomes flat. Once on Wimbledon Common at the end of The Grange, the route is transformed and is an excellent path across the Common, through heathland, woods and golf courses.
