Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 Oct 2025 (edited 23 Oct 2025)Walked from King's Bromley to Alrewas, after abandoning KinAlr 4 due to path closures. This is the only off-main road route past Orgreave that is still open while the pipe work is going on, and I only discovered that this was already a SlowWays route on the way home. This was lucky, as this is a good direct route and even the main road section is made safe by the wide verges.
From Kings Bromley, we head south down Crawley Lane, then east through the park onto a good path than leads us along old lanes and across fields before turning left up a farm track to reach the A513. KinAlr 3 and 4 leave us to head left here, but we continue alongside the road until we reach the road left towards Orgreave, which passes the main house to the south, and continues past the gas station and a couple of farm buildings. Where the farm road turns sharply right, we head straight on on an old lane then a field edge path into Alrewas, where a simple road walk through residential streets takes us to the meeting point, where there is a bench in the road junction. The route could be shortened very slightly by walking through the church yard and crossing the canal onto Mays Walk.

16 May 2021This was originally walked as Kinalr one. I walked it from the Alrewas end which starts very nicely through the village and then follows a fairly straight well marked footpath across flat wide open farmland. Just west of Orgreave the route joins the A513 and it follows a wide, but uneven verge. It felt direct but and there was no obvious alternative but it was a loss less pleasant than the section east of Orgreave. I adjusted the route from the first version to make it easier to navigate to the footpath that runs parallel to the road and crosses the fields into the south of Kings Bromley. The last section is a very pleasant, well marked route.
