Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

As the previous reviewer and commenter have both stated, this route feels pretty unsafe, and I wouldn't recommended it. I'm going to flag this for safety in the hope that this route will be removed. I hope to try out Kinabi two soon - it certainly looks and sounds like an improvement.

Uses a fast, busy road with no pavements for a long stretch going north from the A415. I think this would be too dangerous on foot.

Agreed. Between Gozzard’s Ford and the A415 there is no footway and plenty of very fast moving traffic (especially on the section between the A415 and the Shippon junction). I’ve cycled along here and it was unpleasant. I would not walk it.

It looks like this bad section could be bypassed using a permissive path called “Black Horse Path”, one of the Marcham Jubilee Walks (found via google on the Marcham Society website). The route could go from Gozzard’s Ford south along the permissive Black Horse Path, then it joins the bridleway at the meeting point of Cow Lane and Peat Moor Lane and continues south to the A415 along Peat Moor Lane bridleway. Then take the footway alongside the A415 east towards Abingdon. I will go and check this out on foot soon.

There’s another section that’s dubious for walking purposes, I’ve just checked it (drove through in the car): the ‘Abingdon Road’ that passes through Tubney, between A420 and A338. No footway, and the final half mile is national speed limit for vehicles (of which there are plenty). Wouldn’t choose to walk it. Not checked the Black Horse Path yet (mentioned above) but the Jubilee permissive paths to the south of Marcham are still open so hoping to find same with those to the north.
