Description
This route is a slightly changed version of Kilkiv(0ne). it avoids a dangerous section of the canal, which is marked on the map and on the ground as The Cuckoo Way. So when walking from Kiverton and you reach the A618 Rotherham Road at Norwood. Do not go straight across following the Cuckoo Way sin onto the towpath. But just a couple of metres to your right you will see a footpath sign. Take this, it leads onto Bailey Drave which goes around a small industial estate on your right as it bends sharply right gos straight on to the footpath in the same direction of travel. You are now on a safe section of towpath. Coming from the other direction i.e. Kilermarsh have walked arounf the canal loop just continue down Bailey Drive heading east until you see the path toyour right just before the road junction. All this said. This is quite a nice route, a bit longer than Kilkiv(two) as it avoids the main road and instead looops around following the cana l towpath. A safe and reasonably quiet route, which can become a little boggy after heavy rain

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Oct 2024Quite a pleasant walk, an adaptation of KIVKIL(1). At the time I walked the route in mid-October after heavy rain there were puddles and muddy sections to negotiate. But by and large the paths were in good condition. Care is needed along the old towpath which runs along the western side of the former Chesterfield Canal. There was quite a bit of overgrowth which meant you had to walk close to the canal edge where there is a big drop. One section near the A618, which is still signed as a towpath and as The Cuckoo Way is quite dangerous and also blocked by a fallen tree just on the western side. If walking this as I did , do not cross directly over the A618 onto the towpath - just look to your right you will see a footpath sign, take this. It leads onto Bailey Drive which is a road going around the small industrial site on your right. When this road turns sharp right go straight onto a footpath, heading in the same direction this becomes the towpath. This towpath loop is quite a pleasant walk. If walking in the opposite direction having completed the canal loop and onto Bailey Drive continue on this road until you see a path to your right just before the junction with the Rotherham Road the A618. As you get to this main road look to your right you will see the footpath opposite which takes you back onto the towpath.
