13 Oct 2022Interesting set of reviews, to which I concur. I walked/ surveyed the route yesterday from Farmborough to Keynsham, and encountered issues as follows
1 ) fp near Beech Tree Farm leading to A368 Marksbury is an interesting one. The route as OS map skirts the gardens ( where you will encounter horse tape, but the route on the definitive map, and on the ground is through the properties gardens. Interestingly, the southern fp sign is pointing the wrong way, which makes it challenging. I have tried to raise a complaint on the BANES system, but it appears not to have a section to raise fp issues - I have now complained about that!
2 ) The fp at Court Farm has been diverted around the barn, up the adjacent rh fp, then turning sharp left down the track just past the barn, again interestingly, the definitive map has not been altered, so as to whether this is a legal diversion, or BANES failing to update map is anyone's guess
Other than these two minor glitches I thoroughly enjoyed the route.
No stiles, but counterbalanced by 25 gates.

03 Apr 2022I walked this route from Farmborough to Keynsham. it is generally a great route - especially once you get past Marksbury. Up to that point I had a couple of minor issues: 1) I was unable to use the footpath south of Marksbury across Beech Tree Farm, it was blocked by fences for horses. The previous two reviewers clearly managed to get across fine, so hopefully this was just temporary. There is an easy diversion along the road in any case. 2) I got a bit confused at Court Farm just after Marksbury - the footpath is marked as going through the barn (as is the .gpx file for this route) and it looks temptingly like that might be possible. However, the path actually goes around the barn - right up the hill a short distance, before cutting back left. Coming in the other direction this would be obvious. It should also be noted that there is an unpleasant road crossing in between Farmborough and Marksbury (across the A39) - but this seems unavoidable and visibility is reasonable at least.
After that, the route is wonderful - across rolling countryside in the valley of the Bathford Brook, and joining the Two Rivers Way on the approach into Keynsham. Easy to navigate, and very beuatiful.
All in all, even with the quibbles, this is a great route worthy of inclusion in the network.

06 Apr 2022Just to let you know that we went through the horsey field you mentioned on a line that was rather west of the marked path but had a sort of gateway where the electric fence could be unhooked. Not brilliant (and the signage was rather confusing through there too) but accessible and, as you say, there is an easy nearby alternative to the road anyway. My review was rather brief on the day and I was intending to add a bit more to it, but as yours says most of what I was going to say anyway, I’m not sure I need to now!

07 Apr 2022Thanks for this, good to know it was possible to pass through the field! I have reported the blockage to the local council, who do a great job but are fabulously busy. Hopefully in time they will be able to rectify in a more satisfactory way.

26 Mar 2022From Farmborough, the route is a little roady but once you have left Marksbury, this is a glorious route with a few minor glitches.

26 Mar 2022 (edited 06 Apr 2022)Good route. Safe road walking and horsey pastures between Farnborough and Marksbury. Beautiful route from there on to Keynsham. Lovely walking in the Spring sunshine.
