Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Mar 2023A good few stiles, paths across cropped fields but also nice pasture, some holding horses. Bit muddy after all the recent rain. A well stocked farm shop at Clipston and good views. Shares part of the route with the Nottinghamshire Wolds Way. Well worth exploring with Keycot-3 to make a good circular walk.
I walked from Cotgrave first along a roadside pavement and through an estate before a wooden finger post indicated a path between houses to escape. It was across an arable field from the start but in the open it was not bad under foot despite recent wet weather. Meeting the restricted Byway under trees it was softer going before meeting the quiet lane.
Clipstone has a well stocked farm shop open Tuesday to Friday and Saturday morning. I therefore expected this would cause lots of traffic but I saw only two cars on this road section. More cross field paths having met the Notts Wolds Way, then it was stiles after a clear run of gaps and gates so far. Approaching Normanton it was muddy and bit overgrown with side bushes but still well walked. There is an inn here but it's off route to the south.
Crossing the main road was easy but as I headed home on the diverted bus there was a nose to tail stream of traffic so avoid commuter time. I had never walked the path to the old station which I had spent time at years back when it was a proposed bus preservation site. The station closed in 1949 but the attractive building survives at Perkins Bar & Bistro. The final stretch is along pavements.

11 Jul 2022This is quite a pleasant route, and the most enjoyable part is the familiar (to me) walk from Normanton to Cotgrave via Clipston. I walked it from Keyworth to Cotgrave.
Initially the route is on roads, with pavements throughout.
After crossing under the railway, the right of way follows the surfaced driveway right parallel to the railway. Opposite the first building the waymarked path goes down steps and through a gate into an open field (normally pasture), where there is no path but the right of way follows the hedge.
Cross the A606 with care, you should see a gap in the hedge opposite which leads into another field. The path towards Normanton is normally cut - the line is easy to follow but it is partly unsurfaced, narrow and unsuitable for wheels.
The path from Normanton to Clipston is also clear and easy to follow but it is narrow and a little overgrown in places, and has stiles.
This path leads to the road into Clipston, which you follow round until you reach a wooded area. The way forward is a restricted byway which goes straight on where the surfaced road turns left down the hill.
Shortly after leaving the wood, take the path left through an obvious cut gap through the crops. From here the way into Cotgrave is clear and straightforward.
