Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Jan 2024 (edited 15 Jan 2024)Walked from Keyworth to Cotgrave. No real problems, but it is considerably less direct than the other two routes and the section parallel to the A46 is a little noisy, so I can see why nobody else pioneered it. Overall quite a pleasant walk, and safe as long as you take care crossing the A606 - there are good sightlines so this is not a problem. A few stiles and a few wet and/or muddy sections, so not wheel friendly.
From the Keyworth meeting point we start along streets with good pavements to Widmerpool Lane, where our path starts slightly left of the junction. The path is fairly well trodden but can get wet and muddy, At Stanton Lane we go right then take the path that leads through an alley onto a golf course, where there are just enough fingerposts to make the way fairly clearly. From there we cross a stile onto arable fields which lead easily to the A606,
Go right a short distance then cross with care onto the farm road opposite. After crossing the stream we take a clear track right which we leave as it swings back towards the farmhouse to cross a couple of fields, returning to the farm track. The route ahead is easy and quite well waymarked, the only obstacles being a few more stiles and some slightly wet and muddy sections. In the final field before the A46 the direct path across has been blocked by a fence but the detour only adds a few steps.
We then join the bridleway that runs parallel to the A46, which has fewer crossing points since it was widened a few years ago. We follow the road for over a mile before turning left along Mill Lane an old road, which is very wet and muddy in places, especially the section through a farmyard. At a path crossroads we turn right, then head down pavements into Cotgrave.
