Description
This route irons out the issues contained within Keybat one, namely walking through an operational schools grounds, and navigating a brand new housing estate. It also tweaks the end section by continuing along the river path to the station, rather than diverting through the busy city centre

11 Oct 2023I chose this route as it looked the most direct option, on a drizzly autumn day. Starting from Bath, the riverside walk was lovely, despite the weather. In fact, there were fantastic cobwebs everywhere. (Note: path of the towpath here is due to be closed 4th Oct 2023 to 28th Nov 2023, I did it on 2nd Oct.) This section was all tarmac, often with a tree tunnel, and I passed lots of walkers, runners and cyclists, but very few said hello, until I'd left the city.
It got a bit noisier nearer the A36 and A4, but still felt fairly rural, with lots of birdsong along the middle section.
Leaving the cycle track to access the riverside path again, involved a slightly tricky, short descent down muddy steps, then under the bridge. Along the footpath between the river and the railway I didn't see much of river except when there were numerous little short paths for anglers. There were also one or two cut through paths to Corston where there is a pub. I guess there's a possibility of this path flooding but I didn't see any signs of this. This path was the first bit of non-tarmac.
At Saltford, two third through my walk, there were shops and pubs. The A4 through Saltford was very busy, but was safe, especially if you use the pelican crossing at the east end. The field footpaths leaving Saltford were well used but sometimes muddy.
Navigation on this route is generally pretty easy with just the odd little places to check. The route into Keynsham was a little bit more fiddly to track as it wiggles through new housing and playing fields.
Overall I thought this was quite a nice route.

04 Aug 2022I undertook this route to survey Keybat one. It removes the issue of walking through school grounds, and navigates through the adjacent housing estate, and the new for 22 housing estate. It retains the balance of Keybat one......both good and bad, depending on what floats your boat.
Personally, I only gave it three stars, as ideally a route which cut out the most ( or all of the A4 ) and the remainder being the riverside walk into Bath would merit 5 stars.
