22 Mar 2023This is such a great route from Keynsham to Bath. It follows the well maintained Sustrans route of cycle route 4 and along the Avon. This route is well marked, flat and smooth, off road and direct: It's a no brainer.

10 Mar 2023This is a great Slow Way... and possibly the best way to walk between Keynsham and Bath. Everyone in Keynsham and Bath should give it a go!.

30 Jul 2022I concur with the review by Mockymock, I walked / surveyed the route yesterday, and agree that it is a fine route between Keynsham and Bath.
There were hundreds of cyclists on the Railway Path, all trying to be Eddy Merckx ( showing my age ) or Chris Froome.....so beware.
I slightly deviated from the route as it came into Bath, as the drop down onto the river path just before Rotork was completely overgrown, it made more sense to continue along the railway path right to the end, then walking on the lit pavement on Brassmill Lane, joining the river path just after Osborne Road.
The route is unsuitable for pushchairs/ mobility scooters due to the 5 kissing gates.
Disappointingly, in summer due to the extensive tree growth either side of the railway path there is minimal views .....but conversely there is extensive shade!
The survey highlights minimal facilities in the mid section, however an additional 0.5 mi walk takes you into Saltford where there are the majority of facilities ( accommodation, bus stops, toilets, shops etc )
I recorded the route on GPS at 8.40 mi.

08 Apr 2022Straightforward route which I tried out and enjoyed very much. The way out of Keynsham is mostly through a park by the River Chew, followed by a couple of beautiful miles along the River Avon Path before joining up with the dependable Bristol to Bath cycle path. At the edge of the Bath, the route switches back onto the River Avon path between Newbridge and Locksbrook to avoid a section of road before resuming the cycle path into the centre of town.
Along the way there is the Bird in Hand pub at Saltford, lovely views over to the Cotswolds and model dinosaurs lurking on the opposite site of the river as the path passes by the Avon Valley Adventure Park. The cycle path can be very busy on weekends and holidays with all sorts of wheeled users, and beware speeding cycle commuters during the week.
Access is good along the cycle path sections but the Avon river path at the Keynsham end includes narrow kissing gates and will have muddy ground at wet times of year, so not suitable for wheels.
