Description
Having done all Keybat routes, I came to the personal conclusion that a route along the river was the most satisfying, and this was reinforced by the Avon Valley route ( KB3 ) by Mockymock. I decided to plot and walk a route that took in as much of the Avon as possible, so walked KB3 as far as the Avon Valley Railway track, crossing the river on the track ,then descending onto the right hand side of the river and then following it to Saltford. Unfortunately, there is no LEGAL route down from the cycle track to the footpath near the Avon Riverside Station ( just lots of new fencing, barbed wire and keep out signs ), so I moved to plan B. I walked a route B3116 ( Bath Rd ) [ not very pleasant ] up to the A4 roundabout, then into the Estate. From under the railway bridge the route becomes much better, past the Avon Valley Adventure Park, and across the fields to the river. From there the route follows the river past Swineford Weir, into Saltford and again onto the river just past Brass Mill, staying beside the river all the way into Bath.
There are three pubs on the route. The downside is crossing the A4, which has to be done with care. I recorded the route by GPS at 9.85 mi

22 Sep 2022Whilst longer than the other routes, this follows the river as much as possible. It is the most scenic of the routes. There are three pubs en route, all in the middle third. There are multiple pedestrian and kissing gates. The only real negatives are the 1 mi section at the beginning to the A4, crossing the A4 itself, and the adjacent Trading estate. Thereafter it distinctly improves.
