Description
Alternative route that has a safe crossing over the A303 and avoids closed footbridges on the Leland Way south of Yeovilton.
As it avoids Yeovil Marsh it's probably preferable in winter or after heavy rain, even when the bridges reopen

29 Apr 2023 (edited 30 Apr 2023)I walked this route from Keinton Mandeville to Yeovil and enjoyed it, particularly the northern half. This section is mostly across open, peaceful farmland, with a few sheep, but mostly arable. There are nice villages on the route and pubs at Babcary and Podimore.
Approaching the A303 the route uses Eastmead Lane, an enclosed track. However, parts of this are overgrown and blocked by fallen trees. You can bypass these by using the well trodden paths in the neighbouring fields on the western side of the lane.
After Yeovilton the route is mostly on lanes, but they are quiet. There is a climb to get to Yeovil, but there are decent views at the top.
The walk in to town is a bit dull, as it is alongside a busy road, but there is pavement, so it is safe. It's also the most direct route to the subway under the A30.
