Description

Revised the original route InvKinOne that had a problem when trying to cross Densy Burn in the fields between Admurdo farm and the Balbithan farms

Also took the opportunity to incorporate the following:

-Leave the train station and head directly for the quiet Old Port Road (Avoiding all the noisy roads in the town centre)
-Use the dog walkers tracks on the east side of the railway / north of the cemetery and Alongside the Urie
-Use the Anglers / fisherman's tracks at the Don - Go down to the river edge at the hut to pick up the trail
**Narrow path care required on river edge**
**Stick to the fields if the river levels are high**
-Use the farmers tractor bridge over the Densy burn
-Use the stiles and skirt the field at Breedie's Haugh (optional / instead of walking on the road)

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

21 Nov 2024 (edited 22 Nov 2024) Autumn

This was a really beautiful walk, on a glorious sunny snowy day.

Left Inverurie at 8 on a Monday as the sun was coming up.

Within 5 mins you are on the Old Port road which is very quiet.

When you reach the end of the road turn up to the walkers path on the left of the house (not the driveway for the house)

The paths then continue through some woodland before joining along the edge of the Urie. Follow the trail / rivers edge to the left of the cemetery.

**Care required at the waters edge. If the Urie river level is high take the path on the right of the cemetery**

When you reach the bridge follow round the back of the wall and go up to join the road.

The narrow bridge over the Urie (and the next bend) are slightly difficult to negotiate, and need a bit of care with frequent cars travelling in both directions.

Most of the cars take the Keithall B993 so once you turn off at the junction marked Balbithan, the road changes to single track and there is very little traffic.

Continue on this road past Kinkell churchyard, and through the yard of Ardmurdo farm. Tarred roads finish here but the farm tracks are well defined.

1 hour
When you see the fishing hut go down to the edge of the Don and follow the anglers / Fishermans path
**Care required at the waters edge. If the Don river level is high stay inside the fields**

Head away from the river now and skirt the next fields edge to pick up the farmers tractor bridge over the Densy burn.

After skirting another couple of fields you will pick up the tracks that continue on through the Balbithan farms

1 hour 45
Just after Kintore golf club house there is an option to use the stiles to cross in to the fields at Breedie's Haugh instead of walking on the road

2 hours 10
Reach the railway crossing at Kintore

2 hour 20
Reach the square at Kintore

2 -3 hours should be appropriate for most walkers.

Hillwalking boots required for some sections.
