Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 Jan 2022Decent route between Crewkerne and Ilminster via Hinton St George using footpaths and quiet lanes.
The fields just after Shutteroaks Bridge have electric fences across them, so you can't follow the footpath exactly, unless you do a Colin Jackson and hurdle them. There is a safe way through if you stick to the southern edge of the first field.
Hinton St George is a picturesque hamstone village, and is well worth a look, and the route passes the pub.
There are far reaching views from Pit Road which is a nice leafy quiet lane. When the route leaves this lane at Dinnington it goes through the only boggy part of the walk. Boggy enough that you could lose your boots and the electric fencing isn't very helpful either. You can easily avoid this part by sticking to the lanes through the village.
You need to take care walking on the road through Kingstone, but there are grass verges and it's only 400 yards.
Coming into Ilminster you go through a field with horses behind electric fences, and for some reason the land owner has put a barrier across the path. It's relatively easy to duck under, but for more of a challenge you could limbo it. I'm sure the horses would enjoy it.
