Strider
12 Sep 2022I walked from Ilford to Romford.
There is a nice new station followed by a nice pedestrian shopping precinct in Ilford. Then a short hop through South Park (did not see Stan, Kyle, Eric or Kenny though). Then a long straight residential road, Goodmayes Park, then a long straight residential road, an unnecessary detour through Valence park then a long straight residential road followed by a long straight residential road. The roads are long and dodging vehicles parked on the pavement is a challenge, the parks are fleeting and close at 8pm (earlier in winter?) There is an overgrown path which soon opens out into a path in a ditch alongside a golf course. A cemetery follows with some huge gravestone architecture (closed from 7pm). A pedestrian path past an estate, under the railway leads to St Andrews church where a detour is needed. Go through the grave yard where you will see the route is blocked by large blue hoardings, you have to walk around (see picture). A new estate of 500 homes is being built. I expect this diversion may be altered as the works evolve. Walk parallel to the rail via a 'chevroned' alley to the station at Romford.
I suspect there is a better, more interesting route that someone with local knowledge could devise.
It's a functional SlowWay.
