25 Jun 2022I walked from Ilchester to Yeovil and enjoyed either end more than the middle third where the path maintenance is not too hot.
The route is mostly over farmland both arable and pasture and you can expect to come across livestock. However, they appear to be used to walkers and dogs and ignored me. Phew!
In the middle third, some of the paths are overgrown, some of the stiles are now barriers which have to be climbed rather than stepped over. There was a gate I could not budge and I am not feeling particularly weak today. I walk with my collie, and I had to lift him over that, and one other barrier (he hates that!). There are also crops planted across the path. When I walked it was easy to walk across it without doing damage, but it will be a different story in late summer, closer to harvest unless the path is reinstated (you never know).
The route is mostly flat, but approaching Yeovil the route climbs a bit, and from here there are great views to the north across Yeovil Marsh, with Glastonbury Tor visible on a clear day.
If the poor paths across the middle of the route hadn't annoyed me so much, this would be a 4 star walk, but as it is today, it's just a 3.

03 Jun 2021I linked this route into a much longer walk. As I was on a deadline, I did change the route slightly to give a more direct path where it was clear the planned route was unnecessarily diverting from the quickest route. There are a couple of examples within Yeovil of this.
The route is generally flat, and easy underfoot. Some walking along busy roads in Yeovil, but there are pavements.
The route does have stiles, so not suited for all.
Some cows on the route.
