26 Nov 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)The route does a lot of unnecessary to-ing and fro-ing in Houghton. It is possible to access Thicketroad directly from Mll Street or through the caravan park.
The river section can be impassable in wet weather understandably.

07 Jun 2021We used this route for a lovely, early summer family day out. As we do not have a car but love getting deep into the countryside it was perfect: armed with a picnic, we got an all-day family ticket on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway for £13 and walked from the St.Ives bus stop to Huntingdon bus station, where we got the bus back to Cambridge. The route broadly follows the river Ouse and passes through some very nice woodland. Houghton is a convenient midway point for shops or refreshments if necessary. We got a bit lost amongst the lakes to the east of Huntingdon, straying slightly from the route, but this was not a major problem. We felt very pleased with ourselves for organising such a lovely day out for all of us at virtually no cost. I think I would have preferred to do the route starting in Huntingdon as the nicest bits (though not by much!) are towards St.Ives.

05 May 2021A pleasant walk mainly along the Ouse Valley Way. An alternative start is to continue down Mill Common to Portholme and follow the Ouse Valley Way sign across Portholme to Godmanchester. The walk is relatively easy with a few bridges with steps and several kissing gates. Refreshments can be found in Houghton but no need to walk the loop into Wyton. Thicket Lane is a popular trail from Houghton to St Ives.
