Strider
02 Feb 2023I walked from Twickenham to Hounslow.
Very quickly from the station there's a riverside walk with a well made path and carved benches. There is a slope/step foot bridge over the B361 and the path carries along the river. This bridge might be navigable for wheels but there is a steeper stepped bridge over the railway later on. On the bridge there are views of Twickenham Stadium and Twickenham Stoop. Perhaps avoid this walk on match days when it will be very crowded. There is then a mix of suburban roads and alleyways past Hounslow Station, past the shopping precinct to Hounslow Central station.
A good straightforward walk.

26 Nov 2021Direct route which is generally away from main roads. There is one footbridge over the railway at Hounslow but this can be avoided by using Maswell Park Road rather than Ivy Road and cross the railway on the Whitton Road.

28 Jul 2021** Heads up that this route is not open all hours **
This is an excellent route: direct, takes advantage of some well placed footpaths, and passes close to Hounslow station for added connectivity. Some refreshment opportunity too. I enjoyed my walk and highly recommend it.
There is one quite big snag, which is that the wonderful path at Twickenham Rough is gated, it closes every night, and also closes daytime on some stadium event days, e.g. big rugby matches. Sadly this route isn't going to work on those days, or early mornings/late evenings.
For this reason I'm giving 4 stars rather than 5.
There are also one or two other unlit paths, e.g. along the Duke of Northumberland's river, which may not appeal to after-dark urban walkers. Would be good to have an alternative route which is safe and well lit 24/7 - although it might not be quite so nice as a daytime walk!
The route line has a random unsafe road crossing at Twickenham station, take care to cross at a safe crossing point.
Accessibility: There are two bridges with steps, otherwise paths are good, and apart from the crossing at Twickenham station, all other road crossings are safe.
