Description
This route is a replacement to Houmur one which has a plotting error between Hetton-le-Hole and Hetton Lyons Country Park. It is in other respects pretty much identical. I have taken the opportunity to finesse the plotting in other places

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 Jan 2025I walked this route on Friday 17th February - the weather was cold but sunny. Parts of the route were a bit muddy whilst other parts were frozen. This route goes via Hetton-le-Hole so the first part follows the route of Houhet one. It follows the streets out of Houghton-le-Spring then along footpaths and shared cycle paths adjacent to housing until you reach Hetton.
You then skirt the town centre and then enter the Hetton Lyons Country Park. This has a lovely lake, complete with swans. The paths are well made. After this the path continues straight along an old railwayy track before turning left onto a country lane which goes through a farm. You then turn right through some woodland and along a field edge before entering the village of Murton.
There didn't seem much in the town by way of facilities but the Dalton Park Shopping Centre is at the edge of the village which has shops and refreshment opportunities and a adjacent supermarket. The buses from here seem quite frequent.
