13 May 2021The route leaves Hornsea on the very popular Transpennine Rail Trail. All too soon you have to leave the safety of the rail trail and walk on a busy local road with cars flying by. Then at Mappleton Water Tower the route begins a nice 5km stretch of pleasant walking through arable land and past small belts of trees. After this it’s back onto roads and again it’s a fast and dangerous road. Finally, with relief, the route comes off the road and follows well trodden paths into Aldbrough.
As with all the routes in the coastal towns in this area, they can happily be replaced when the National Coastal Path stretch from Filey to Easington is created. Until then the most viable alternative is to walk on the beach at low tide.

19 Jun 2021I agree entirely and can't wait for the National Coastal Path to be created along this stretch of fast eroding coastline. The walk from Hornsea to Mappleton along the sand at low tide is very good with sand martins nesting in the cliffs, also toilets and a good cafe with tea, cakes and ice cream at Mappleton.
