Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

03 Jun 2021I took this route on Thursday 3rd June 2021.
Not the best of walks.
Leaving Hook you soon reach Bartley Heath. The paths here don't quite match the OS map but it's easy enough to navigate across it with the B3349 and M3 roaring at you to steer you in the right direction. The path the other side of the motorway takes you across a bleak farm field to Lodge Farm which is more of an industrial complex than a farm. Dodging the HGVs was helped by reasonable signage to get you through.
The route around Odiham and down to Well takes you across fields with cattle, sheep and crops. Some nice views.
You leave Well along a lane with no paths. To make this worse, the path that should take you past Shrub Copse is shut off by an iron gate, forcing you to continue along the road. The highlight of the walk is Husseys Lane and the following walk into Bentley.
As far as recommendation goes, it's not much of a walk for pleasure but it's hard to see an alternative way of walking between to two towns.
From the Slowways criteria:
1) The route is fairly safe. The only concern is the road out of Well.
2) The route respects local codes and laws - except the blocked path.
3) It is accessible in that it is not a strenuous walk. There are stiles, gates and steps along the way.
4) The route is as direct as possible.
5) It is off road except for the road out of Well
6) I stopped at a park in Odiham and there is a pub at Well.
7) There are busses and trains at both Hook and Bentley.
8) The route is reasonably clear.
9) The walk is mostly farm land. A bit dull.
10) The paths are mostly well established.
