Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Sep 2022August 2022. Direction: Aberdare to Hirwaun.
Nice walk in parts up at the heads of the welsh valleys. After walking through the streets of town, Aberdare Park is another little gem in the area, well maintained with plenty of amenities. The path then leads up through some rough ground into Cwmdare and then up a farm track and on to the mountain. One slight question mark over the path from Nant Melyn farm onto the mountain, not sure I got the right way here and had to jump a fence. The mountain paths at this time of year can get a bit overgrown, so some care is needed on reaching the open moor. I spent a fair old time in above head high bracken before finding the right way. Great views from the top of the mountain though, right across to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons, and the walk along the mountainside before turning right and heading down into Hirwaun was very pleasant. A detour is currently in force as you enter Hirwaun, due to the work being done on improving the A467 Heads Of The Valleys road. Take care crossing this busy road !
