Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 May 2025A very pleasant walk starting on good paths that are sheltered and easy to find. The route is mostly level with no hills or slopes. It's well away from traffic and roads so is very peaceful and enjoyable route from Highworth to Lechlade. The first part is through town streets in Highworth but quickly into countryside and then follows the Thames Path, often next to the river. Some of the fields have livestock so dog owners will need to take care. Access is through kissing gates in several places which may restrict access for some wheels - small pushchairs may be ok. Paths through the fields are tracks, easy to find but narrow.
The route arrives across the river at Lechlade and there is a bit of a step up to the bridge to cross into the village where there are several tea rooms and pubs.

24 May 2022A delightful route incorporating a quiet section of the Thames path between Inglesham and Lechlade. So nice I did it two weeks in a row. I would defintly suggest this to others. The route is accurate. The route can be muddy in Autumn/Winter/early Spring.

10 Apr 2022This route can be started from Brewery St car park (free 24 hour parking) or with frequent bus service number 7 to/from Swindon. After crossing Highworth the advised route is along Pentylands Lane because the public footpath in the adjacent fields is often too boggy. From the end of Penytlands Lane the path is signposted along bridle path (1st photo). There was one short wet muddy patch (2nd photo) which follows a dry spell of weather (can be muddier at other times). When the bridle path meets the main road and Thames Path, take the right route heading east along the Thames Path (3rd photo). After crossing a field (5th photo) the relatively new route along the Thames from Upper Inglesham to Inglesham (6th photo) provides a walking route across fields along the riverside. Kissing gates enable access to all fields. There a a few foot bridges. This route is easily navigated all the way to Lechlade.
