Description

The other route options felt funny because the two nodes are both on the same road. So I'm proposing this route as the "I just need to get between Highbury & Islington and Dalston quickly and directly" option!

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Main road all the way but still of interest to a visitor and direct for locals. Attractive houses, what do they cost? Some with neat gardens, other rather neglected. Parked on the roadside a blast from the past, a Triumph but don’t ask me the model. A back street garage on the high street, perhaps with a tardis interior. Ending at Dalston Junction station on the Windrush Line, part of London Overground.

I’ve walked this route many times as a direct route between Highbury corner and Dalston, most recently on Saturday morning. It’s safe, direct and easy to follow, with plenty of bus stops and shops along the way. Depending on the time of day it can be busy with London traffic.

I walked this route from Dalston to Highbury. I thought I'd attempt the walk that just follows the main road direct between these two points to see how it was.

Overall, I wasn't too bothered by it. Sure, it's a main road, but I didn't find it too traffic clogged on a weekday afternoon. Instead, I found many quiet moments of beauty, and many shops and restaurants to keep me occupied along the way. This is definitely the most direct way to go, and in my opinion it's perfectly pleasant, too.
