Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Mar 2022This is the shortest, flattest route between the two towns but is a really unpleasant walk at times along a busy A road which is mainly 60MPH. There are points where the narrow footpath is encroached on by greenery (including brambles) and there can also be debris on the path (such as stones from boundary walls).
The section from Helensburgh town centre to Colgrain farm is ok as there are proper pavements and then a cycle path (and similarly there are pavements once you get into Dumbarton) but on the section between the towns I have nearly been pulled onto the road at times by the speed of large vehicles passing. I would never choose to walk this route and instead do the longer route via Balloch/Alexandria which is mainly on traffic-free paths and cycle paths. However, these routes involve MUCH more of an ascent and are still not suitable in terms of accessibility.
