15 Jan 2023 (edited 16 Jan 2023)Walked from Eastwood to Heanor on a winter morning after a lot of rain. A good direct route, but quite steep in places and wet in winter. There are a few steps at the Erewash bridge and more to reach the railway bridge, and some of the fields get a little soggy when wet.
Leaving Eastwood, we head down Queens Road North to the rather curious big roundabout and dual carriageway Plumptre Way, which we follow to its dead end. Our road uses an alleyway to reach Knapp Avenue, and we turn left down Church Street, and cross the by-pass on the road bridge. We turn right down a narrow road (plenty of big puddles here) which takes us over the two canals. We turn right a short distance along the Erewash canal, then take the field path (which was rather wet when I did it) right. We cross the Erewash on a narrow wooden footbridge with a few steps on each side, and cross another open field to reach the footbridge over the railway, which has steps on both sides. The path up the hill is clear and enclosed until an open park is reached below Laceyfields Road. We continue up Breach Road, turn right onto Clara Mount Road, then up Ella Mount Road. The path right leads is through a park to emerge on Ilkeston Road, which we cross and turn right, turning left along Church Street to the meeting point in the market place.

01 Feb 2022I walked from Eastwood in January, on a fine day. A quiet exit from Eastwood downhill on residential roads. The section from the Erewash Canal bank to Langley is across fields. There are steps onto the narrow footbridge and on the railway overbridge. Heanor is a hilltop settlement, so from the railway the route is uphill, but with good views back across the valley. The approach to Heanor is on quiet residential roads with a pavement, and then alongside the Heanor Memorial Park.

25 Apr 2021A report on the highlights but also any challenges.
Away from the traffic on minor roads with pavements, footways or US sidewalks (not footpaths). Pleasant short section across valley bottom meadow. Heanor Memorial park well kept. Some good view.
Good views means climbs. Cars parked on pavements. Narrow bridge with steps at river crossing. Cattle. Steps at bridge over railway.
