Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Jul 2022I tried this route beginning in Heathfield.
I didn't get very far before getting lost. After turning right off the A265 the route takes you through Heathfield Park, which is either a private park (as it's not listed on Google) or else was closed for maintenance. I overcame this issue by following the A265 and turning right on to Battle Road, rejoining the route around Heathfield Community College. At this point I think there was a discrepancy in the map because it suggests that you come out of the park on to Battle Road, but this isn't possible. So then I detoured along School Hill to rejoin Battle Road (where I was supposed to be).
I took a left on to a very poorly marked public right of way, which became better marked but didn't at all follow the route as shown in the map. The rights of way have either been altered/aren't yet sign posted (there were signs of coppicing/new fencing) or have become overgrown.
It is possible that my GPS was incorrect when I got lost around the College, but there were definite discrepancies between the map and reality.
I would be interested to try the route again, beginning in Battle and seeing if it makes more sense coming from a different direction.
