Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

28 Jul 2021 Summer

I liked the initial part of the route alongside the allotments but then found it impossible to cross the A6 which is wide with fast traffic changing from 3 to 4 lanes at this point.
Torkington Park is lovely and foot/wheel friendly.
The blocked route at the north end of Hazel Grove Golf Course has already been commented. I was previously aware of difficulties of accessing Stockport Golf Course at the south end.
Torkington Brook and wood are lovely, even magnificent with anemone in spring.
However, with access problems as they are, more use needs to be made of the Middlewood Way and Macclesfield canal in order to stay off-road.

The path running north from Hazel Grove Golf Course towards Holly Farm is blocked - that whole side of the golf course has a hawthorn hedge along it. Reported this to the Ramblers.

    Nightauk - 25 July 2021
Additionally, during the first lockdown I tried very hard to find the two footpaths out of Stockport Golf Club to the south and could see no sign of them. I see no alternative to using part of Torkington Rd and accessing the Middlewood Way asap.
