26 Feb 2022 Winter

Walked on 25th Feb 2022, a few days after the Storm Eunice. It was pretty muddy in places and there were fallen trees across the path in several locations so some clambering was required, but that will be temporary.

Like HAYEAS One which follows much of the same route, this is a 20km hike through some of the best High Weald landscapes. Overall, I think it is a marginally better route from Ardingly Reservoir to West Hoathly.

The route is quite strenuous, with ups and downs, mostly following footpaths and bridleways across small fields and through woodland. Several kissing gates, footbridges and a boardwalk. No stiles.

Two villages along the way Ardingly and West Hoathly offer some facilities. Ardingly has small shops, both have a pub and a public WC. The Cat at West Hoathly is recommended for a good lunch. It is also possible to stop for coffee at the Kingscote Vineyard shop. A short detour to Standen NT provides a café and WC.

03 Sep 2021 Summer

We went from the south side of Haywards Heath to Felbridge following this route for the majority of the way. Our total distance (including a couple of <1/4 mile diversions for pubs) worked out as 20 miles according to a GPS smart watch. Lovely walk with no challenging hills and well made paths for the most part. I recommend the bakery at Ardingly for bacon baps and the Cat in West Hoathly was open even though Google said they shut between 2 and 6pm. St. Margaret's church in West Hoathly was a lovely stop too.
