Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Dec 2022Walked in reverse (Ashton to Haydock)
Three quarters a good walk, but a difficult midsection.
From Ashton-in-Makerfield centre, it is a walk along a paved road south out of town. Past some schools, the route goes down a footpath, muddy in places, ending at stairs to access a footbridge over the M6. On the other side, through a small meadow and then into the trees past a section churned up by heavy plant machines. It's not easy to find the path, but once on it, it runs quite narrowly between two industrial units. It's not an easy path: overgrown, with debris and even old bottles on the path, it is only for the foolhardy (like myself!)
Near the end, a tarmac footpath winds to the road; a few turnings, and we take a footbridge over the East Lancs, before walking along it until we access a short path and then it's paved residential roads to the end.
Foot-only due to terrain and steps, but the path through the industrial estate makes it not the best; an alternative shall be found and tested.
