Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 Jun 2023This route is not suitable to be part of the Slow Ways network due to unsafe road crossings of 2 very fast, very busy main roads, and more than a mile of unsafe road walking.
Problem 1: Shortly out of Haxby the route crosses York's busy ring road A1237 on the level with no traffic island or footbridge. Traffic here may be moving at up to 60 mph. (For descriptions of trying to cross it, see reviews of Yorhax one.)
Problem 2: From Huntington to the A64 there is more than a mile of walking along a fairly narrow road with no pavement or walkable verge. Although a minor road, part of this section is used by many vehicles as a short-cut to the A64 making it very busy.
Problem 3: On reaching the A64, the junction itself is dangerous with three lanes of traffic on the 60 mph A64 and zero visibility for pedestrians at the junction, and there is no traffic island or footbridge over the A64 to help pedestrians reach the public right of way on the other side. The A64 is usually very busy, and on my attempt to walk the route the traffic was constant. With no wish to step out into moving traffic I abandoned my walk at this point.
