Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

We walked this route today, Wednesday 1st September 2021. The start of the route (the Haslemere end) was more interesting than the end (heading towards Petworth), which is mostly in wooded areas and then a bit of road walking along Blackhouse Lane. The route is not arduous but I expect that it might become very muddy in places during the winter months. There are some lovely views in places. The route shown on the website does not exactly follow the public footpaths, but it's relatively easy to work out what is meant. Just north of Hook Copse, the footpath veers off to the right on the map, but is not there on the ground, however it was easy to find by walking a bit further East and crossing over to where the footpath ought to have been. There is a section after crossing the A272 at Oldham Copse, walking over Brinkshole Heath which is access land but does not have any public footpaths marked and which was a little tricky to navigate. Other than that there were no real problems following the route.
