04 Sep 2024A pleasant walk, even with the initial part of the walk being on road. No areas of massive concern when in the dry. However the fields approaching Knaresborough have evidence of large puddles and lots of mud. I would avoid following periods of heavy rainfall.

08 Mar 2022A very pleasant walk that follows good residential and roadside footpaths for the most part, but I have to say even so this route is quite engaging as Harrogate and its outskirts make this an enjoyable walk.
This walk includes kissing gates, stiles, and a narrow gap (broken stile). I walked this after a very wet spell and there were muddy stretches close to the golf course, but the worst of the mud was in between the railway crossing and Gallow hill. I found this section was quite unpleasant due to the mud.
There is a steep and uneven track between Knaresborough and Gallow hill that would be very challenging for wheels. Given the mud, stiles and uneven track this isn’t an easy option if you have wheels.
Starbeck is blessed with free public toilets :).

08 Jun 2021The Eastern end near Knaresbrough has steep steps and can be busy. Leaving the town towards the mid point at Starbeck the path passes through fields and across a railway.
The Western end from Starbeck to Harrogate is direct and functional mostly on pavements at the side of a busy road.
Hard to improve on without a significant detour.

03 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Much of this route is beside the main road from harrogate to knaresborough which makes it a little uninteresting but not easy to create a better route without making it considerably longer. So for a direct route it is fine. Walking from knaresborough the path is a little difficult to follow in the fields to the west of knaresborough. Easier in other direction. Long steps and steep street in knaresborough.
