Description
Hammersmith to Kensington away from Kensington High Street. This route is less direct than Hamken One, but uses quieter back roads, and passes through Brook Green and Holland Park: the 'pleasantness' factor is considerably better.
Access: There are stairs where the route crosses the railway line at Olympia. Holland Park closes after dark. Choose Hamken
One for 24/7 step free access.
Refreshments: Park cafes in both parks, a 'greasy spoon' at Olympia, a couple of pubs, and some upmarket restaurants too. Lots at both ends of the route. Toilets clearly signposted in Holland Park, less obvious at Brook Green (next to the cafe)

23 Jul 2024Agree with others that this is a superb route from Hammersmith to Kensington. Plenty of amenities nearby as you’d expect from London, and lots of quiet roads and green space. All whilst being direct.

03 Aug 2022This is a lovely and varied walk. It goes past Brook Green, the cafe/ kiosk is fab (I'd recommend the cheese toastie and elderflower slushy). The walk through Holland Park is really pleasant, if you have time to spare I'd recommend visiting the Kyoto Garden. I'd highly recommend this route!.

25 Jul 2022A very pleasant and interesting walk to avoid a busy main road. Goes past Brook Green, where there is an excellent kiosk for drinks and snacks. There are steps as you pass over the station at Kensington Olympia. Walking through Holland Park was an interesting bonus, although it does close, so this route has time constraints. The last section drops you into Kensington High Street via some high end residential streets. Definitely one for "if you have the time" but not too badly indirect for it. Safe, as offroad as it can be and easy to follow.

24 Jul 2022Very peaceful urban walk that takes you through beautiful residential streets, a couple of parks with great facilities - cafe, toilets, etc - and past an impressive library. Keep an eye on the directions since it twists and turns a bit, but well worth following them!
There is a spot where you have to go up a few steps at Kensington Olympia station. If you can do steps it is far better than going along the road, but if this isn't possible, you'd have to go to the main road to cross over.

23 Jul 2022I walked this route from Hammersmith to Kensington. It's absolutely a five-star route!
I enjoyed getting right off the busy roads and into Brook Green, a lovely little park with an amazing cafe. The quiet streets around the events centre were really fun to explore as we winded our way around. Holland Park was a stand-out. I also love that you emerge right at the High Street Kensington station, avoiding the entirety of the nasty and traffic-soaked Kensington High Street.
A really fantastic route, offering some really fantastic urban adventuring. Really pleased!!.

23 Jul 2022Walked Hammersmith to Kensington. Although less direct than Hamken One it is on mostly residential back roads, and has a couple of pleasant parks on the way.
We stopped at Brook Green cafe for toasties and drinks, couldn’t have been better placed.
At Olympia the route crosses the railway lines which unfortunately means steps. There is a map by the steps showing a step free route, which is along the main road which Hamken One follows.
Holland Park was busy on a summer Saturday. Then all of a sudden we were at Kensington!
I would definitely walk this route again in preference to staying on the main road.
