Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 Mar 2023Walked in 2 parts about a month apart - Guildford to Send and Woking to Send. Hourly-ish bus service from Send to Woking or Guildford (not Sundays or bank holidays).
Good route, easy to follow, mostly it is along the Wey navigation on a reasonable towpath. There is a little kink at Send where it goes to the pub, this could be skipped by crossing a bridge and picking the route up a little further on. But I recommend the pub, it’s a good one.
There was one section between Send and Old Woking where the path became muddy and slippery, and there wasn’t much to hang onto for stability - I recommend walking poles and good waterproof boots/wellingtons! I had not bothered bringing walking poles and rather wished I had. I think this is a seasonal thing and should be ok in dry weather. (Photo 4).
There are steps and stiles - especially awkward stile near Woking by the cricket ground (Photo 7). With the river dominating so much of this route there is the possibility of flood, check on-line for flood warnings before walking if in doubt.
All in all a decent route and one I’m happy to validate.

02 Jun 2021Most of the walk is through lovely countryside along the Wey Navigation. The New Inn at Send is a great spot for a drink and loo stop - we also ate our sandwiches there by the water. It can't be helped but the final mile or so into Woking isn't as pretty but I'm not sure there's a pretty way into Woking. There is a temporary issue which is right at the start you can't get to the river from the station at the moment because of works on a new bridge, however if you turn left from the station down Walnut Tree Close there is a little alley down to the river not far along.

05 May 2021A generally flat route following much of the River Wey/Wey Navigation towpath from Guildford Station to Woking Station. The Wey is owned and managed by The National Trust.
There are a few steep ramps up and down where the towpath crosses roads or switches sides. Lovely views across water meadows, interesting and well kept locks and bridges and a short detour can be made to Send Church. The path skirts around historic Sutton Place estate.
The first 2km out from Guildford is well surfaced and flat. In wet weather the path could get quite muddy. There are a couple of pubs on route for refreshments, particularly the New Inn at Send where the path leaves the Wey and crosses to Old Woking.
The final part of the walk is less interesting; a mix of industrial and residential streets with a gradual incline up White Rose Lane to the finish.
