Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

18 Oct 2023A very straightforward route, one third up/down the Chevin, one third through fields and along a farm lane and one third on quiet roadsides.
The route up the Chevin, via the steps, is challenging but do-able with breaks as necessary. The reward at the top in terms of views towards Almscliff Crag and Harrogate, up Wharfedale, and over Leeds and Bradford, is well worth it. The walk over to Guiseley then also includes a good view of the runway of Leeds Bradford Airport.
The paths are generally good to very good, with some chance of mud in places.

02 Apr 2022A suitable route using road footways past local shops from Guiseley station, turning onto an old cobbled trackway. After contouring the North site of Otley Chevin, the route uses a muddy footpath through fields to the top of the Chevin, with fantastic views back over Bradford. From the top of the Chevin, giving fantastic views to the North the route is then steep, down steps and paths into Otley.

20 May 2021This route can feel a little daunting when you start to ascend the Otley Chevin 'Stairway to Heaven' which can take on a sort of hypnotic quality with each step and you are rewarded with fine views at the top from Surprise View. However coming down is a bit of a dream. Not one for wheelchairs or pushchairs, but uses established paths and a bit of road walking in Guiseley. Guiseley Moor feels a bit remote, but otherwise the route is safe.
