Description
This route takes you along the banks of the Thames, with a quick detour through East Greenwich to avoid circumnavigating the Greenwich Peninsula. There are lovely views along the river and over three quarters of the route is pedestrian only.
It was originally uploaded as GreWoo Two by George Sunderland on 09 Jun 2021 but there was a technical problem and it was not visible on the Slow Ways maps. I have uploaded it again simply so that people can begin to walk and review it because it is a great route that I cycle often (although I haven't done an on-foot review yet).
At the same time I made three small diversions just to keep the route off the busier roads a little more. One of these is along Bowater Road just after the Thames Barrier. That route can apparently be locked, maybe at night. If it is closed just continue up the Thames Barrier Park, left along busy Woolwich Road until a big roundabout (MacDonalds), then left along Warspite Rd and straight on to the Thames. The extra distance is about 1/3 of a mile or 600m.
There are plenty of places to eat along the way, but there is a long gap between the restaurants outside the cinema (just after the A102 footbridge) and the cafe at the Thames Barrier Information Centre

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 Sep 2023This route was pretty straight forward, i did take this path on a rainy day and there was one particular area shortly after the Thames barrier building, where the path was flooded. I had to mount the fence to help me get across this big body of water as i wasn't wearing water resistant shoes.
Other than that, the scene varies from industrial warehouses to new apartment complexs to very cute tavern alleys closer to Greenwich.

13 Jan 2023Enjoyable route mostly along the river. As previous reviewer said there is a bit of the Thames path closed by the Woolwich ferry but there is an easy enough detour. Would do this again!.

05 Sep 2022Scenic views, historic interest (classical and industrial), and mostly follows the way-marked Thames Path / Sustrans Cycleway NCN1. Also a lot flatter than GreWoo one if speed is a consideration.
There is a large aggregate works by the Thameside and sometimes it generates a hell of a lot of dust which could affect people with breathing difficulties. This is between Peartree Way and Lombard Wall in East Greenwich.
Night walkers beware! There is one section just east of the Thames Barrier which is technically only open between 6am and 9pm. I've attached a mini map showing the alternative via Woolwich Road that you'd need to use instead.
During an on-the-ground test yesterday there were a couple of temporary blockages:
* Azof Street, on the Greenwich Peninsula, was being dug up for some reason, easy alternative is Mauritius Street which runs parallel.
* The Thames Path has been diverted for a building project at Mast Quay, just west of the Woolwich Ferry. This is due to reopen in October 2022 but the closure has stretched from one year to three, so don't hold your breath. Sometimes the diversion signs get moved so another picture is of the diversion (via Woolwich Church St). Cyclists are also diverted onto this narrow footpath which is not ideal.

30 Jan 2023Thames Path is still closed at Mast Quay. Asked a guy working at the Woolwich Ferry entrance, he just laughed and said no-one knows.

02 May 2022Interesting and enjoyable route. Most of it is along the Thames Path but cuts out the Greenwich Peninsula, making the journey quite a bit shorter. The roads through Woolwich at the end are mainly pedestrianised.
