Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

12 Nov 2023 (edited 05 Dec 2023)TL:DR This route is walkable but you'll probably prefer walking GreWoo 3 instead. Could do better.
GreWoo 3 goes along the Thames Path (off road) and a few smaller streets and it has magnificent views along the river. This route is mostly along busy or very busy roads. To be fair there are a few A-roads that are a lot worse. Although it climbs up the high (and steep) ridge it manages to miss all the opportunities for a good view. Except once, from halfway down in Greenwich Park. You'll also narrowly miss the Royal Artillery Barracks, Charlton Park and Charlton House. But it does include the back view of St George's Church (listed), the Ha Ha path beside Woolwich Common and G Park is always lovely.
This route uses the most gentle way possible up/down the ridge at Woolwich although it is a long slog. But at Greenwich Park it's a moderately steep choice compared to other options. Every other path down but one has a better view.
The distance is similar to GreWoo 3 and I suspect they are similarly accessible bar the hills, although the Ha Ha path is not a smooth surface there is a parallel tarmac path. Both have a few cobbled crossovers. Greenwich Park is unlit and locked promptly at night, times on photo.
I have walked or run this in parts over the last few months, in either direction, but not all at once because there are better options. I wouldn't literally recommend it but there's no option for "I didn't enjoy it" or "better routes are easy to find" and it doesn't deserves a flag.
Edited to add screenshots re comment about an alternative route plus a few photos.

11 Aug 2023I have walked parts of this route before and recognied when I left the new Elizabeth line at Woolwich, there would be some challenges. Uphill past two churches to cross a busy road and past the MOD. It would be so much nicer walking through Charlton Park than on the road and visiting Charlton House. More suburban roads to Greenwich but gate closed so diversion. A lot of busy roads and pollution. I don't like this route but it is accessible.

05 Dec 2023You could combine the Greenwich end of this with most of new route BlaWoo 4 for an enjoyable GreWoo walk that would be less windswept than GreWoo 3. Swap over at Maze Hill, SE3.
It might be an enjoyable wheel too if you can handle the long, and briefly v steep (in G Park) climbs and small cobble patches in Greenwich. See pics for a step-free join and alternative shallowest way through the park, (4-6%, same as Woolwich hill, stay on traffic-free roadway to avoid camber). Sadly it has the worst views going up that hill in the park.
