Simple short route in pleasant Lancashire countryside. Fairly easy to follow, though there are a number of other paths radiating from the edge of Great Harwood. A mix of surfaces from grass through to tarmac tracks, with short road sections at both ends. Mainly kissing gates at field boundaries, but one or two stiles too. Care needed descending steep stony/stepped bridleway dropping down to Whalley Nab road.

I walked this route from Great Harwood on a very cold and frosty day. The first 700m up Church St and Church Lane were treacherous as the path hadn't been gritted. Once into the fields, it needed a lot of care to stay on your feet as the paths were slippy. Having said that, on a better day this route will be fine. There are nice views back towards Accrington and down into Whalley from The Nab. There are good facilities at both ends and good transport links, especially in Whalley.

This is a challenging but rewarding walk over Whalley Nab, very steep in places, lots of rough steps and loose stone underfoot however. Lovely views as you get higher so it's worth the effort and the walk is well away from roads and traffic. We walk this often from Great Harwood to Whalley which has good pubs/shops to reward the effort. Just remember you have to walk back up the Nab after more than one pint.
