Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Nov 2022Review of SlowWays Route Grakin one (Grangemouth to Kincardine)
I reviewed this route on a sunny morning in early November 2022. I walked the route in reverse, starting in Kincardine. The walk or cycle out of Kincardine is very simple and helped by a crossing over the busy A985. I took the advice of the previous reviewer and chose to cross the Kincardine Bridge using the footpath on the east side. This made negotiating the Higgin’s Neuk Roundabout much easier with no roads to cross. There is then an excellent path/cycle track lined by wild Rose bushes which helpfully block some of the noise from the traffic thundering along the adjacent road. The route soon turns south and winds its way along some pleasantly quiet farm roads until a sharp right-hand bend where the route strikes off down a grassy track. This track (which is extremely muddy in places) loops past a lagoon with a viewing point and eventually arrives at the minor Newton Road. At the end of this road the route crosses the River Carron and the Forth and Clyde Canal to arrive on the edge of Grangemouth. After a short section along the side of the canal the route zigzags through Old Town and arrives at the centre of Grangemouth via a quiet road adjacent to the A904. This is a pleasant, well-designed and accurate route. It presents no problem to the walker but the muddy track leading to Newton Road may exclude some wheelers.

21 May 2021This is a good route on foot or bike, the on road section behind Skinflats is quiet. On the main road A876 the road is busy but the footpaths ok. If going to Kincardine I'd recommend walking on the east side of the road and bridge and crossing at the traffic lights in Kincardine. If heading for the Clackmanannshire bridge use the agricultural bride to cross the A876 safely.
