Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Apr 2023I walked this from East Horsley to Gomshall on an overcast, but fairly warm spring morning. It had rained over night, and there were a few stray drops.
From Horsley there were quite a few muddy tracks (photo #1, #2, #3), but as soon as the chalky North Downs got involved it was a lot easier going (photo #4). There were a few steep ascents, and also a steep descent into Gomshall (photo #10) — be careful! Most of the route goes through woods (photo #6), and you even pass a sawmill (photo #5). The woods were all delightful, and even more so when the Sun came out (photo #7, #8). I got a little confused after getting to Gomshall, as the public footpath (photo #12) doesn't start where the map shows, but instead at the south east end of the public car park just north of where the map shows it to be. A delightful walk, which I heartily recommend.

04 Aug 2022We started from Horsley station which is about a mile from the start of the route in East Horsley along a fairly busy road but with reasonable pavements. The route is easy to follow until you get to The Sheepleas where there are many footpaths to choose from and the signposts mostly don’t indicate a destination. (If it is any help, when you get to a post with a choice of Green Dene or Shere Lane car parks you head in the Green Dene direction.)
After you cross the Green Dene road some of the path is quite steep and I would imagine hard walking in wet weather. From now on most of the route is through woodland. The stretch from Honeysuckle Bottom is broad and flat but the turning off is easy to miss. There is a little more steep path coming down to Shere Road. The route crosses over into Queen Street avoiding the A25 and then left down a small footpath through the sports club car park and across playing fields before returning to the A25 from Goose Green. We turned right and continued to Gomshall station about a quarter of a mile on. Most of the food places along here seemed to have closed down but I’m sure if you turned left from Goose Green there must be others.

18 Jun 2022An excellent route. Mostly on paths over the North Downs through woodland. Easy to follow. There are cafes and pubs at either end, although none on the route. This made for an enjoyable walk when linked with Gomeas2 for a return journey.
