Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 Mar 2024This route is very easy to walk to Broomfleet. A portion of road walking out of Gilberdyke to Newport, and then a very pleasant footpath following the canal south to Broomfleet village. The canal path is grassy and raised so not too wet passing past a lot of water channels and ponds, with hedgerow in some places. After passing under the rail bridge, the footpath meets a tarmacked lane for the rest of the way to Broomfleet. This is a quiet road and has wide grass verges to walk in some stretches.
From the village, the route continues towards the river with hardcore gravel surface, then zigzags around field edges till it meets the rail lines where Crably Creek enters the river.
After this point, the footpath is a grassy raised path walking between the rail lines and the river, with a narrow sheep field at the side. This is pleasant and peaceful, and far away enough from the rail lines to not be too stressfull when trains pass.
The route does not go to the centre of Brough, which is mostly a residential outpost of Hull. To access shops/refreshments you have to walk into Brough from the train station area.

25 Mar 2024Gilberdyke to Newport then following the Market Weighton Canal path which is well signposted.
Joins the Humber estuary walk which goes all the way to Hessel.
