Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

15 Jun 2024Overall this is a good route, but we did find 3 places where it is inaccurate and could potentially cause problems.
Please use Gatspr Two which corrects these glitches.

15 Jun 2024I walked this route in the direction from Springwell to Gateshead. The Springwell end starts with a little bit of a narrow footpath that was quite muddy in places but after that it was very clear and easy to follow. I really enjoyed this route.

03 Jan 2022 (edited 24 Jun 2022)This feels like a route of two halves - the first a steady climb using streets then onto rougher tracks through post industrial wasteland and countryside on often very muddy and sometimes boggy paths. (I have walked this in the summer when it was much drier.)
There were times when the 'exact' route was inconvenient so used slight detours which do not impact on the route itself.
There were some great views towards the coast and hills but sadly the route also passed through what felt like fly-tipping central!
I have walked sections recently (May/June 2022). The council have upgraded and cleared paths which has made this route easier and more pleasant.
