Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Jun 2024We are live very local to this walk so the area is very familiar. We followed the Slow Ways trail and the Lincolnshire countryside was lovely especially on a sunny day like today and we passed through some pretty villages. Due to the recent rain and sunshine we have had, the path had become very overgrown in places and at a couple of points we had to crawl underneath some trees which had fallen over the path. On the whole though, the path was easy to follow and the majority of the time was signposted well. The most disappointing part though is a quite a large section of the route was on the side of Pottergate Road which has no pavement and is a fast road to walk along. Although the road is not particularly busy, it is dangerous as the cars tend to speed. This part can easily be avoided by walking along a disused railway line at the bottom of the hill between Leadenham and Welbourn which would avoid the fast road and the climb up the hill.

21 Jul 2022A good walk with some lovely views and stretches. Finding the path in Wellingore was slightly confusing, as it is not well sign-posted in the village. Welbourn has a lovely park on the site of an ancient castle, ideal for a break or spot of lunch.
The stretch between Leadenham and Fulbeck is along the road and therefore a little dull, but there is a foot path all the way so you are not dodging cars.
The route can be extended to Caythorpe, which has two pubs and a local shop, which may be a better end point.
Both the start and end of this walk are served by the main Grantham to Lincoln bus service.

22 Aug 2021This is a relatively straight forward route, with good bus connections to the start-point from Navenby. The route through Fulbeck is on open roadside pathways but these narrow as you enter the next village, Leadenham. The route then takes you up the hillside on a climb up to the ridge and then along Pottergate Road. On the hill there are two sets of steps down to the base of a disused railway line and up the other side. Pottergate road itself is quite a fast rural rat-run for traffic, with a verge but no path. This section of the route up the hill did feel somewhat unnecessary; not direct, adding gates and accessibility issues and a section of road-walking that didn't feel overly safe. There were nice views once you got off the road however. Back down the hill to Welbourn, which had a good shop and bus stop, though the footpath into the village was overgrown. The walk across the fields to Wellingore was nice, straight and very well-marked, but I'm aware after wet conditions this path can be muddy and unpleasant to walk on. One last unavoidable climb up to Wellingore and then through the village and along the Viking Way footpath towards Navenby, with lovely views down from the ridge. The route skirts the edge of Navenby before ending at the northern end. This adds in some additional climbs, gates and a short section of un-pathed road walking, which did feel a little unnecessary. There is a more direct route in to the village center. This route did end at the chippy, however. Overall a good straightforward route, but it did feel there were some unnecessary diversions, climbs and road-walking that could have been avoided by a more direct route.

17 Sep 2024Thanks for that suggestion. I have plotted a new version using that railway path and will submit it once I have test walked it (as long as it works).
